There is a classic Australian children's TV show that I remember from growing up called Round the Twist. I don't remember much from the show apart from the main characters living in an isolated lighthouse on a cliff (and the theme song that really gets stuck in your head!).
Where I spent last Saturday night reminded me so much of this lighthouse! A row of houses right on the cliff (really right ON the cliff edge) at Birling Gap is where my flatmate's friend lives. Eliza and her husband have been lucky enough to rent one of the small row of cottages for a few months. What an experience!
It was such a fun 24 hours - Saturday afternoon was cold but clear and we went for a stroll along the pebbly beach. What followed were many hours of drinking mulled wine, eating hearty chorizo stew and swapping funny stories. The next day the weather had turned and even though I couldn't quite get warm it didn't matter - the blustery weather was perfect for the English windswept seaside.
